Knife Sets

This full tang oyster shucker design is something new we are trying out here at Monolith. It seems in the world of Oyster Shuckers... standing out in the crowd is pretty hard these days. As the saying goes, "if it ain't broke don't fix it!" 

So... we decided to follow our friends at Town Cutler and try out a design they perfected featuring a full-tang construction. Of course we made some tweaks of our own but we certainly wont be claiming the design on this one, just the quality and craftsmanship! 

"Full-tang" means that the blade steel runs all the way through the handle for strength, with pins and a small Lanyard hole if you need it. This design is more suited to those folks who prefer to pry their oysters open at the hinge, a bit different than our Chesapeake Shucker, which is designed for bill shucking. The Full Tang Shucker is durable and strong, and will have no problem tackling any oysters you throw at it.

The Damascus is hand forged from 1084/15n20 carbon, and is available in several different patterns including twist, random, and raindrop. The handles are made from a variety of hardwoods stabilized by K&G in Arizona.

These shuckers weigh around 7.5 oz

Blade length is 2.5" at the bevels and overall length is 7.25"

Please note: Oyster Shuckers can easily rust after sitting left in a bowl of brine or even just in general use. Oysters are creatures from the ocean. They have natural, oceanic salts and fluids in their bodies. Always rinse your oyster shucker off with clean water and wipe it dry before setting it down or storing it. 

And like all Monolith Knives, never place it in the dishwasher!

These return labels are for customers who have mailed in their knives for minor repairs or sharpening which are services we offer to our clients for free. This will initiate your repair or sharpening order with us.

However, due to volume of the knives we sharpen and or repair we can no longer cover the cost of the return shipping.

The return shipping fee is a flat rate of $15.00 for an insured return to you. If someone sends more than 3 knives at once this fee may need to be adjusted for the shipping cost and insurance.

Damascus Steak Knife Set of 4 in Walnut Cradle 

Set of 4 stainless damascus steak knives. These sets are made with our 5" steak knife profile of damascus stainless steel folded by Damasteel of Sweden in two of their most classic patterns, Vinland (random) or Dense Twist pattern.

The steak knives are offered in two variations:

- African Wenge Handle with nickel silver pins and twist pattern Damasteel.

- Figured Black Walnut with brass pins and random pattern Damasteel. 

The African Wenge is sourced using FSC graded wood to insure it was harvested according to international import laws. This wood is a common species used in knife handles and instruments. It is very durable and quite beautiful. 

The Black Walnut is locally sourced, cut some 50 years ago by Zack's Grandfather comes from Peter Jefferson Place, a farm originally owned by Thomas Jefferson and his father Peter in Charlottesville and named Pantops. 

The cradle is handcrafted of our regionally sourced Walnut here in Virginia. Color and graining of the walnut wood for each cradle will vary greatly due to its natural nature. The knife handles and cradles are oiled with non-toxic, 0% VOC lemon based block oil.

Born from roots and tradition of Oyster farming and shucking on the Chesapeake Bay, dating back to the early 1800's. Our Chesapeake Shucker follows a design and shucking style that is generations old called bill shucking. This style hearkens back to knives historically used in oyster shucking houses, restaurants, and homes throughout the Chesapeake Bay region. 

Monolith's Chesapeake Shucker is made for bill shucking from the front, not for attacking and prying the hinge like a mini crowbar. With a thin blade, this knife provides quick and clean access to severing the oyster from its shell. The shape of our blade has been narrowed for efficient access to the oyster shell and then has been given a slight edge for cutting the muscle. Our handle is designed to fit in your hand comfortably through many, many oysters.

Our shucker blade is of Damasteel, a high-grade stainless Damascus that is both durable and beautiful. The blade, measuring 2.5" is securely fit into a turned handle made of stabilized wood. The wood handles are mostly domestic species like Walnut and Cherry, sourced directly from Zack's farm, but we do limited runs of other interesting species and/or burls when we get them. The ferrule functions to give a secure hold on the blade under shucking pressure for added durability.
